Full Roof Replacement — Luxury Montana Villa

This project was one of the more complex and comprehensive roof replacements we've completed — a luxury villa requiring a combination of DaVinci shake and standing seam mechanical lock roofing across different sections of the roof, a full tear-off of the existing shake, and a complete rebuild of the roofing system from the deck up.

The scope started with a full tear-off of the existing shake roofing and the old standing seam sections — 37 squares of shake tear-off and 31 squares of standing seam removal. Once the existing material was off the roof we installed sheathing across 219 items of deck preparation before any new roofing went down. Every square foot of the roof received 100% ice and water shield installation across 136.58 squares — a critical layer on a property of this size and complexity where moisture infiltration at any point in the system would be difficult and expensive to trace and repair.

The DaVinci shake installation covered 42.50 squares at the project's primary roofing sections. The standing seam mechanical lock system covered an additional 31 squares — installed with a full mechanical lock seam for the performance and weather tightness required on a property at this level. 3-1-3 flashing was installed at three key transition points throughout the roof and L-flashing was installed around the Boston ridge — details that matter on a complex multi-section roof where water management at transitions is critical.

Snow retention was a significant part of this project. With 704 snow retention brackets installed according to layout and 166 snow retention rails placed at specified roof locations, the system is designed to manage snow accumulation and shedding safely — important on a multi-story villa where uncontrolled snow slides create real risk to the property and anyone below. The existing snow retention hardware was removed from the entire roof before new retention was installed. Six siding sections on the roof were also removed and reinstalled as part of the project to allow proper access and flashing integration throughout.

The multi-story nature of the villa added complexity and cost to every phase of the project — 73.50 squares of the total roof area were at second story height or above, requiring additional equipment, crew time, and safety coordination throughout. This was an out-of-town project for our crew requiring hotel accommodation for the duration — something we handle regularly for larger projects throughout western Wyoming and the surrounding region.

The finished product is a fully rebuilt roofing system — DaVinci shake and standing seam mechanical lock roofing on a luxury villa with a complete ice and water shield beneath, engineered snow retention throughout, and custom flashing at every critical transition point. Built to handle whatever the seasons bring for decades to come.
